If you don't know what it's like to be a construction manager, there may be more responsibilities than you think.



As discussed in this article, a construction manager's job is not very consistent. At least in the sense that you don't do the exact same procedure every single day. There are so many different things to get done at different times during a construction project that you are bound to be doing different tasks each day of the week. Not only do you have plenty of tasks to complete, there are all different types of tasks. For example, you could have a meeting one day with stakeholders, and the next day you are meeting with the construction project owner. In the article, the author describes several ways a project manager stays busy each day: preparing and submitting budgets, hiring and managing staff, negotiating contracts, being present at meetings, ensuring the company's compliance with laws, ensuring the site workers safety, and so on. 


There are many skills it is important for a construction manager to have. These may include things such as communication skills and having plenty knowledge of what you are doing. These are two of the most important skills because they are used so often. Having good communication skills as a construction manager makes a huge difference in how efficiently your work on a project may be accomplished. If you are rude or leave important elements out when discussing construction plans with your subordinates, this may cause a rift. Not just a rift as in one's desirability to be around you, but a rift in the chain of information. It is very important to clearly state what needs to be done and how it will be done, or there may be issues down the road as workers may interpret your instructions wrong. Having a depth of knowledge is also very important because it makes your workers more likely to trust you if you know what you are talking about. If you genuinely know what you are doing, it is much easier to guide others.
