About Me




Introduction: 

My name is Matt May and I am a 19 year old sophomore at East Carolina University. I was born and raised in Durham, North Carolina but I now reside in Greenville to attend school. I have three roommates, all of whom I have known for nearly a decade as I attended middle school and high school with them. I'm a dog lover, I have a 9 year old lab mix that lives with my parents and an 8 week old pit bull mix that lives in Greenville with me. 


Education:

I acquired my high school diploma from Durham School of the Arts in downtown Durham, North Carolina. I attended the school for 7 years because the grades range from 6th grade to 12th grade. 

I now attend East Carolina University, where I am now in my third semester of pursuing a degree in Construction Management.


Experience: 

My first job was a summer job as a lifeguard at the Woodcroft Club in Durham, NC. I worked there for two summers until my lifeguarding certification expired. For my hard work, I received a raise after my first year. 

I now work as a part-time groundskeeper/maintenance trainee at my apartment complex, Proximity at 10th. I have only had the job about a month, but I have already gained plenty of valuable experience.

For the last two and a half years, I have been a volunteer firefighter at New Hope Fire Department in Orange County. About a year ago, I also joined Winterville Fire Rescue/EMS as it is closer to school. Through the fire service I have grown quite a bit as a person and I have learned many valuable life skills. I am now only two months away from becoming a certified firefighter and I plan to pursue a part-time career in the fire service.



Aspirations:

Once I attain my Construction Management degree from ECU, I plan on eventually becoming a construction job-site supervisor. I am only three classes away from attaining my firefighter certification, which I will utilize to further my career in the fire service and at some point earn a paycheck. Once I am a certified firefighter, I plan on earning my EMT Basic certification to expand my skills.

  If you don't know what it's like to be a construction manager, there may be more responsibilities than you think. As discussed in this article, a construction manager's job is not very consistent. At least in the sense that you don't do the exact same procedure every single day.
